Why More and More People Are Watching Television Instead of Going to the Movies

We all love going to the movies and with good reason. Hollywood consistently finds ways to whisk us away to other worlds. You may have heard that more and more people are watching television as compared to going to the movies. Teenagers and young people are still going to the movies in relatively large numbers, which is reflected in growing movie industry profits, for example. Yet, the numbers of people consistently going to the movies in other age groups may be dropping. There are many reasons for this occurrence, let's look at a few.

Cost

The prices of movie tickets do, in fact, just keep going up and up. It is not too absurd to believe that some movie theaters may be charging as much as $20 per ticket soon! This means that a family of four could expect to pay as much as $80 for a night at the movies! That expense carries with it more than a little sticker shock. Of course, this doesn't even factor in the high prices of concession snacks.

Larger Screens

Home television sizes increase on seemingly an annual basis. Screen sizes of 50 inches, 60 inches and even 65 inches are all common place. Further it is expected that television sizes will continue to grow in the coming years. Bigger screens make staying home for the evening a more attractive option.

Improved Technology

Just as television screen size has increased, so has image quality. High-definition and satellite TV mean that consumers are getting the best home image quality ever. Looking a few years out technology, such as organic LED or OLED, promises to offer consumers colors and resolutions that were previously the stuff of dreams. With these kinds of options available, it is little wonder that people love their home theaters.
