A Quick Guide to Available HD Home Entertainment Options

HD home entertainment is here and here to stay. From televisions programming to video gaming consoles, there has never been a better time than now to have fun at home. There's a catch though: it takes two to tango. Entertainment options may have the right hardware to operate in the highest resolutions available, but they also need the right media to go along with that too. That's why it is paramount that you take both into consideration when choosing how you're going to enjoy your entertainment at home.

Almost all home entertainment is going to revolve around a high definition television set, so that's where you should start. Your choice is going to depend on a few of factors, including whether or not you want to wall mount the TV, how much money you want to spend, and what you'll be doing with it. The more money you have the better, but there are some excellent value TVs on the market these days. If you're going to mount your set on a wall, you're going to want to get an LCD TV of some sort, preferably one with LED back lighting because those are extremely thin. More money will get you sets that make motion appear more fluid or that potentially have 3D capabilities. Sports fans might want to consider a plasma set because they tend to do better with motion, though LCD technology has made a lot of progress lately. In the end, it would probably be best to look at the sets in person and then decide.

The three main kinds of media you can enjoy at home are Blu ray movies, video gaming consoles, and television programming. Blu rays generally take the best advantage of your television and sound setup, but they come with their own set of problems. For starters, a collection can add up to substantial sum. Movies tend to cost upwards of $20 and the player itself can be around $200. A collection of just 10 titles will end up being around $400. There's also the inconvenience of having to keep your collection up to date. Blu rays have excellent HD offerings, but it's a solution best thought of as a supplement for something more comprehensive.

Video gaming consoles are much cheaper, and offer incredible bang for you buck, but they're not for everyone. Not everyone wants to play games after all. Besides, some people are looking for more of a human element in their entertainment and video games can sometimes feel robotic and emotionless. Once again, this is an option best thought of as a supplement.

How about television programming? Over-the-air programming is often broadcast in high resolutions, but its variety is extremely lacking. In this category, it's much better to go with a satellite TV solution. It'll have a wide array of channels broadcast in the highest resolutions available, and since you could have access to hundreds of these channels it would not be lacking in variety. The real kicker is that no other option is cheaper; it's hard to side against entertainment that costs only around $1 per day. In the end, your best home entertainment choice is going to be satellite service.
