The Digital TV Switchover

For television viewers in the U.K., the switchover to digital TV will be complete when all viewers are receiving a digital signal. This process was begun in 2008 and has gradually taken place throughout the country. By the end of 2012, everybody will be getting their television signal through digital means, so a digital television set has to be purchased or a converter box can be obtained in order to receive the available programming.

This switchover has been taking place as a calculated process, incremented in different areas as planned. Most people did not completely understand what this entailed, but with national ads that better explained how this idea worked. There is simply no way to avoid getting a digital capable receiver for anybody who wants television programming. What has caused this digital switchover to happen?

This is not a new idea by any means as it has long been considered the best means for transmitting the TV signal. The most popular feature is that a digital signal provides a much clearer band than that of analogue devices. Since it is highly focused and narrow, the compression is used to hold more information and so more channels are able to be offered to subscribers without any additional charge.

The completion of this process is expected to be totally complete by 2012, so outdoor antennas will be a thing of the past. For those people who still want regular programming but don't feel the need for cable, this is a great bit of information. Customers will be able to enjoy a lot more options with the digital method, including radio broadcasts on their LG TVs. The programming is similar to what is available on cable, but without the 300 extra channels.

Manufacturers have been getting ready for this transition for a number of years, so all of the television sets now being sold are equipped with a digital receiver. So customers in need of new Samsung TVs for example, can buy upgrades to replace their old ones which are already equipped to receive digital programming. However, there are small set top converter boxes that can also be purchased for those that aren't ready for a new type. Some DVD recorders also have a built in digital receiver, so this can like killing two birds with one stone.

With the extra channels being offered, the digital TV switchover is now quite popular among viewers. This whole process is now better understood by citizens who now see it as something positive to improve their entertainment choices. It is also not quite as complicated as originally thought by most of citizenry who understand a whole lot better the type of advantages they will be afforded when the entire country has switched over to digital.
