Freesat Vs Freeview

If you are seeking to switch to digital television but do not want to pay a monthly subscription you will be familiar with Freesat and Freeview. However, you may be wondering which is better: Freesat vs Freeview?

Well, the two free-to-air services are quite different indeed. Freeview provides free digital television through a traditional aerial. With Freeview, you simply purchase the box and connect it to your television. Freesat on the other hand, requires you to have a satellite dish, which of course means is a lot more costly than Freeview.

Purchasing Freeview is a lot less expensive than Freesat. Of course, this depends greatly on the type of Freeview box you purchase as Freeview models are made with different specifications. However, they are generally less expensive than the cost of purchasing a Freesat box, which requires the additional satellite dish to be installed.

Now, although the Freesat service is more expensive, it is also generally considered to be far more superior to Freeview in several ways.

Firstly, Freesat receives a more stable digital broadcast transmission than Freeview because of the satellite dish. If using Freeview, you may need to invest in a superior outside aerial, and/or aerial lead to pick up a better transmission signal. Using an indoor aerial to watch Freeview is generally useless as indoor aerials are known to not pick up clear signals.

Now, the additional installation of a satellite dish to use a Freesat box will require you to spend a little more money, but the benefit of doing so is that you end up with more television channels and of course HD channels. This is ultimately why people prefer to opt for Freesat instead of Freeview.

The choice of which is better, Freesat vs Freeview comes down to whether or not you watch television a lot, whether you like additional services with your television channels, and also how keen you are on technology.

For instance, if you have gotten a glimpse of a HD channel and would like to watch programmes in HD, then it may be worthwhile purchasing a Freesat box. You will not get Sky HD channels with the Freesat because they are subscription based channels. However, you will receive an ample amount of HD channels without the subscription cost, which is what attracts people to purchasing a Freesat box.

On the other hand, if you are not too concerned with having more channels than you can watch, and do not particularly care for HD channels, you may want to go with Freeview. Freeview is the easiest and cheapest means to watching digital television with high definition channels, although not as many as Freesat.
