Some Still Say Cable Over Satellite TV?

People still keep arguing over what kind of service is better, a cable or a satellite TV connection? Really, it's amazing that this debate has dragged on for so long now: it's been years since the winner has been apparent to me, and I just don't understand how so many people have failed to notice the answer, too. The reality is that, all things considered, a satellite TV subscription blows a cable subscription out of the water, in just about every detail. From programming options to high definition content to the quality of their customer service, cable has been standing still while satellite has been careening into the future.

It's no surprise that satellite has more channels than cable: that's really the one detail that everybody does seem to know. But many people erroneously think that this just means a satellite connection comes replete with tons of useless, uninteresting channels. How far from the truth that is! There are more local channels, as well as more programming options from abroad. There is a ton more educational content on satellite than on cable, which means that if you've got kids that you want to see learning at the same time that they watch the tube, you're better off with satellite. And don't forget about sports: cable sport packages are always limited, not only regarding what games are contemplated (rarely something other than the typical baseball, basketball, football trio) but also by regional interest. Not so with satellite, where you'll get all the games throughout the nation and abroad, games you probably had never even seen on the TV before.

Then there's the high definition content. Cable has been adding high def channels at a snail's pace, offering packages that rarely exceed 50 channels in high def. Satellite will give you the opportunity to watch over 130 strictly high def channels! And there are some of the coolest channels imaginable in high def, like HBO, the Discovery Channel, Spike, and the History Channel. Of course, all my favorite games come through in high def, too, a huge plus for a sporting fanatic like myself. I didn't know what to do with so much high def content at first, but I've realized that I have no need for standard definition in my life any more.

Last up is the customer service. My cable provider had me fed up with their slow, incompetent, and unfriendly service. There wasn't much fixing the problem though, because as long as I was a cable client, I was just another number on a list. With a total local monopoly, my cable provider had few incentives to improve their service; and considering all the digitalization and new cable-laying projects they had going on, they were busier with other things. With satellite, you're faced with a much different scenario: there is no local monopoly, there is no need to digitalize old infrastructure or lay new lines. The technology is much more advanced in that regard, and maintenance is practically nonexistent. Still, the one or two times I did call for help in figuring out how to properly use my service, I was attended quickly and amicable. What a difference.

So get real and realize where you'll be better off...with a satellite subscription!
